An Open Letter To Sarah Palin

Dear Sarah Palin,

I just watched your video. It is so unbelievably disingenuous, and continues your arrogant "How-can-I-ever-be-wrong-I-am-a-republican-and-say-Jesus-a-lot?" attitude, that it literally made me nauseous. If you want to be famous, go to Hollywood, but stay the hell out of politics, where all you do is create a trail of pain and ignorance in your wake. "Blood libel?" Do you even know what that term means? Are you even aware of the connotation it has in the Jewish community? Are you even aware that Congresswoman Giffords is Jewish? I suspect that you don't.

And no, it isn't your fault that this shooting happened. But for the love of God, don't make excuses for that ad you put out. How about a quiet apology to the Giffords family (since, you know, you did put a gun sight over her district), and a pledge to at least try to refrain from such violent imagery in the future? That would be classy, that would allow you to keep a shred of dignity. But I suspect that you won't, and then hopefully you'll piss off enough people that you'll finally fade into political obscurity where you belong.

Sincerely,
Me

  1. Sarah Palin is an idiot, but in the marketplace of ideas we shouldn't demand cenosorship. That only hides intent. Perhaps if Barack Obama had rhetoric in the style of Palin (meaning he didn't censor himself or his beliefs not that he agrees with her) democrats wouldn't have voted someone in who is as much a corporatist as the guy before him. I'm glad she does those things that way even idiot's can see she's an idiot. If we demand self-censorship in the arena in which idea's are born politicians will oblige, and we will remain in the dark.

Our mantra should forever be "Fuck Censorship"

  2. I'm not demanding. I'm suggesting. For the sake of the families of those killed and injured. There is a difference between demanding someone shut up, and asking for them to do it. Just like there is a difference between "policing" language, and simply criticizing those with power and influence that use violent speech. They have the right to say it, and I have the right to tell them they're wrong FOR saying it.

  3. Even suggesting it reveals your preference. I say let it all hang out. It makes it easier to figure out who the lunatics, visionaries, and status quo politicians really are.
